10 TIPS FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BE A CONTENT CREATOR

A content creator is someone who produces educational, entertaining or recreational material that caters to their audience interests and needs. Plainly put, a content creator is also an artist. The content can be in the form of blog posts, pictures, videos, podcasts, ebooks and more. The end product or service is shared through social media or other marketing platforms.

So, you want to be a content creator, you want to create captivating content that is going to grab your audience’s attention and make them keep coming to you for more? If you answered yes to this, then here are 10 tips to help you on your journey.

Start where you are

I know that may sound cliché but trust me when I say you need to stop waiting for the perfect moment because that moment will never come. If you want to be a content creator, you need to kick those plans into gear and start where you are with what you have. Make that move, just do it and you can figure it out as you go along.

Be yourself

Being your authentic self is what your audience needs, they don’t want you faking it because eventually they will pick up on that stunt. Your authenticity will allow you to cultivate and build a loyal community. Straight up, people want a creator that they can relate to.

Stop overthinking

As a creator I know all too well that overthinking can suck up all your creative juice. Spending too much time thinking if people will like what you do or if they are going to support will let you want to not start at all or you have a great idea to share but you hold back thinking too much into it to the point where you never post it. A few weeks someone post that same thing or similar and it does well. You overthinking cost you!

Tune out the noise

By this I mean, tune out the naysayers! You will have people who won’t support you or straight up tell you that you can’t do it, but tell you what, those are not your people, they are not your audience. Someone out there wants to see your work, they want to hear your story, they want to support you so tune out the noise and get to work.

Plan

I’m sure you’ve heard the say, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Well, its self-explanatory! You have to plan, so that you can be strategic, so that you can provide quality content for your audience and not just some hurry come up stuff. Planning is not easy, but it makes your job as a content creator easier.

Do your research

If you want to be taken seriously or if you want your audience to trust you then you have to be an expert for your niche. That means, you have to be constantly researching so that you can provide your audience with not only facts but be verse and able to answer questions whenever they arise. Doing your research will also allow you the content creator to be confident in your delivery.

Study & understand your audience

You expect that your audience will soak up all the content you put out but that cannot happen if you are not providing your audience with the right content. You have to study and understand your audience so you will know what they love. Look at your analytics to see where your audience lives, their age, also look at your posts that does well and that will give you an idea of what your audience is looking for.

Be consistent

Just like planning, consistency is key. You cannot expect your audience to stick around if you are going ghosts every few weeks or if you only provide content every now and then. Being consistent will have your audience coming back for more every time because they know you are coming with the fire. They will take you seriously because you are about your business.

Stay current

Be up to date about all areas of your niche/industry, not just what’s relevant only to you. Stay in the know about innovations, trends and opportunities because being in the know will allow you to provide valuable information and solution to your audience’s problems. Changes happen every day and it happens fast too so in order to stay current you must be curious and willing to stay on top of topics your audience cares about.

Ask for help

So many of us, including myself are afraid of asking for help but in all honesty, you cannot do this content creation thing alone. It does not belittle you to ask for help, especially if it’s something you can’t find the solution to even after you’ve done your research. Asking for help when needed will make your job so much easier.
